KBLS (Korean Buckeye Life Science) 12월 정기 모임이 다음주 12월 10일 화요일에 있습니다.

-Abstract-

The molecular biology revolution of the 1980s allows mathematics to play more active roles beyond the data analysis of experiments. That is, along with the advanced knowledge of molecular interactions among genes and proteins, mathematical modeling can simulate direct molecular interactions with biophysical low (e.g. mass action kinetics). With the power of simulations for molecular interactions, the mathematical modeling can provide the testable molecular predictions and mechanistic explanations for biological system. In this talk, these roles of mathematical modeling will be discussed with one of the most dynamic biological systems, circadian clocks.  Specifically, I will show how to use mathematical modeling to test and predict the effect of drug on circadian rhythms. Furthermore, I will also discuss how mathematical modeling can be used to explain unintuitive experimental results, such as why certain gene mutation totally disrupts the circadian rhythms, but others not. Finally, I will provide couple tips to make successful collaborations between experiments and mathematical modeling.
